Vermont Rural Ventures

Investing in communities

Vermont Rural Ventures invests in the economic, environmental, and social well-being of Vermont. VRV is a qualified Community Development Entity certified to use the New Markets Tax Credit program to retain or create jobs and essential goods and services for Vermonters

The Challenge

The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program is a complex but attractive financial tool for businesses or nonprofits with projects located in qualified low-income communities. However, most businesses and nonprofits are unaware of the program or intimidated by its requirements.

Insight

Developers, commercial lenders, and the financial professionals that serve them lack understanding of the NMTC program.

Qualified communities often have good, viable business and economic development opportunities, but have limited access to capital. The NMTC program addresses the capital gap by providing the incentive of a Federal tax credit to individuals or corporations that invest in a Community Development Entity (CDE).
