Nicole's pick: Let's face it, the official "water access" that Burlington has provided for dogs from the Battery Park dog park is woefully inadequate, so let's talk about where there are some decent places to swim with your dogs.
1. Oakledge Park: Though you need to have your dogs on a leash throughout the park, once you reach the rocks many dogs and their owners delight in the freedom that off-leash brings. There are several spots that are perfect for jumping and even some that allow you to wade in off a small rock beach. It's probably my favorite spot to bring my dogs. 2. Red Rocks Park: Many people are accustomed to having their dogs off leash in Red Rocks Park during the colder months, but beware! Since Memorial Day, the park is monitored by staff who will not-so-politely remind you that your dogs must be on-leash. There are some swimming options, though. Follow the main road down to the overlook and you'll come across a set of metal stairs. Take these down to the rock beach for some great doggie swimming. Though there is no incline here to worry about, the rocks can be sharp, so don't be surprised to occasionally come home with a cut paw. The other option is to hike through the park to the front side (not the Shelburne Bay side). Here you can scoot under the rails and hike out onto the rocks. Another nice spot for swimming for both you and your dogs. It is never crowded, which can be a downside to Oakledge.
3. Lake Iroquois: Though I have never personally been out to Lake Iroquois, my dogs have managed to swim there with the help of some friends. All I heard was rave reviews in the form of total exhaustion from my two labs.
