Best MS Word Headache cure
Caleb's pick: I use hot keys quite a lot, in fact I often find myself not using the mouse at all. It's faster and easier if you use a program a lot and are familiar with it. It has always bugged me that some of the more basic hot key combos are missing from MS Word (such as "Save As...") or are different than they are in other programs. Well, how happy was I to finally figure out that you can customize them?

Answer: VERY. Here's a quick tutorial on how to do that.

Go to Tools -> Customize -> Customize Keyboard. This will come up with a dialog that allows you to modify your hot keys. In the upper left there is a list of categories. By selecting a category, you are given a list of commands within that category. If you select a command, you will see a key combination appear in the "Current Keys" area (if there is a key combo set for that item). If not, you can click inside the "Press a new shortcut key" text area and then press the desired shortcut key. If that combo is currently assigned to another command, it will tell you which one.

Let's do the "Save As..." command. Under "Categories," select "File." Under "Commands," select "SaveAs." You'll see that no key combo appears in the "Current Keys" text area. Click in the "Press a new shortcut key" text area and hold down the Command key, (or CTRL on a PC) the shift key, and hit S. You'll see that it's currently assigned to "Style." If you want to assign it to "Save As..." instead, click Assign. Done! Now you can customize more keys in the same manner or hit "OK" when you're done.
